Believe In You

Every so often someone will approach me about a sewing project that has me looking like:

youwantmet'dowhat??

(Showing off new glasses which I unashamedly confess are from the Hilary Duff collection. Hey, I liked the shape and colors! But if she ends up getting turned out by "the industry" like some of the other young stars, I will be ashamed.)

A few weeks ago I got a call from the band coordinator at a private high school that triggered the above expression.

Apparently the band drum major is broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted and his current band jacket doesn't fit well. So they want a whole new one custom made. No. Not alter the other one to fit. Make an entirely new one. And it needs to look as close as possible to this:

And they want me to make it.
And they found a pattern that's similar.
But I don't get along well with commercial patterns.
They cause me to sit and stare into space for extended periods of time.
Which prevents me from being productive.
So I'd have to make my own pattern.
And make the entire jacket from scratch.
Never mind the fact that I make simple garments for women.
And not band jackets.
Or jackets at all really.
But they believe that I can.
And I can.
I have before.
So they gave me a box of materials and sent me on my way knowing I will.
And I will.

Other requests that brought about the above facial expression:

"Can you make me a comforter???"
"A Rug???"
"A slip cover for my oversized couch???"
"I know you wanna make me some curtains for every room in my house, right???"

Because of course if I can work a sewing machine, I not only should be able to do all of the above, but want to do all of the above.
My reply:

"Uhhh, no."
"Nope."
"I'll pass."
and
"Sure don't."

I do appreciate the faith people have though. :-)

I don't think I posted this dress here before

Black and white herringbone print. It's pretty big on me hence the hand in back holding excess material. ;-)

Some tunes.

Same words over and over but such a powerful song!

peace!

You know I sewed foe years, even went to votech and one year of college for Fashion Design. I put it down for about 12 or 13 years. However, I bought a pattern to make my new bundle of joy some wool cloth diaper covers. I successfully made pants from my heart, but the pattern has me staring into space for hours. I can't remember what the symbols mean, and the instructions looks foreign, My little guy will be here in less than two months, and I haven't been able to make his covers...sigh.

Hahaha. I can only imagine. Good luck with that jacket. Looks like quite the challenge. The dress is beautiful... looks like a great office/dinner/semi-formal gathering piece.

No, you hadn't posted that dress that suits perfectly. Ditto in regards to glasses. So, requests, huh? I should know, I get some funny ones about teaching dance every now and then :-).

Greetings from London.

Hahahaha! I know the feeling of "youwantmetomakewhat?" Those requests usually come from my mom or son. They think I can do anything. But I must admit it's nice to have someone be so confident in your abilities even when you aren't. And I must admit that I think you can do that jacket too. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Hi Fly Tie :),

XO!!!
Last time when I commented about this post,I didn't really have much time. But,you made me laugh girl :)!So,have you already made that jacket?
However,I also wanted to say in regards to the previous post, that it was very nice to discover that you're part of a project who helps people to have a better life.Somehow,I've to say that when you told us about it,I wasn't so surprised.I don't know,it was as if I already knew it.It's the positive energy you transmit in here,I guess :).
Anyway,I hope you'll post more about these projects.
Sending you a strong hug...and of course a kiss,kiss ;)!

sigh...I feel your pain, I get the same requests and I look at people the same way...just because I sew and design, doesn't mean I want to sew or design dat! LOL.
