Workin' What I Got

Title courtesy of Mary J. Blige. And while I'm at it, here's another that'll get ya movin'. (Dang...Mary J. has been doing her thang for forever and a day. It's pretty cool to see (hear) how she's grown over the years...all while not seeming to feel the need to be a certain kind of way on stage or in videos to compete with the younger female singers who came after her...)

But anyway....my fabric stash has been getting low for 3 reasons: 1) the lovely elder ladies who normally give me fabric have not doing so here lately (I've got some coming, though!), 2) what I'm seeing in stores just isn't appealing to me at the time, so it stays there, and 3) the thrift stores haven't been having anything...well plenty of patterns, but no fabric.

But the other day I was in serious "be grateful for/use what you've got" mode (as I always am ;-) and started coming up with ideas for some of the fabrics that I *do* have that have just been sitting around. Now I've got 3 new *fly* pieces to show for it:

You may remember this material from this skirt. There wasn't much left, but I held onto it knowing it could someday become *something*.

There was plenty of this purple fabric left over from a certain halter top. I bought way more than I initially had use for and really wasn't interested in using it for anything else. As a result it just sat on the shelf for months. Well, good thing I changed my mind, cause I really love this dress. Chiffon is great for the handkerchief style skirt.

Here's some more fabric that I'd decided that I just wasn't gonna do anything with.
It was given to me somewhere along the way, but I just wasn't motivated by the way it looked folded up on the shelf nor by the shimmery-ness and floral pattern. But oh how that all changed when I figured out a style that would really do the fabric some just. Well, actually, there wasn't too much figuring to do considering that I've done this style before, ha ha!

So there you have it. Fabric that was once just *blah* in my eyes, officially transformed. The halter is in my shop. The others will be added later.

Be well!

peace

thanks for all the wonderful comments! :-)

@ keena--create everyday? me? ha! there are times when i go *weeks* without even touching the machine. here lately though i've been on a roll, so i'm just riding the wave.

@ wee scream vintage--now see, i was the *queen* of cassette tapes ha! and i still have plenty.

i can def. say i'm a bigger fan of mary's early songs as well. and i gotta give her props for the positive tunes she's been putting out lately and just for achieving the transformation in her personal life that she thought/knew was necessary.
