Did Somebody Say... Fat Tuesday?????

I've got a pretty extensive collection of formal/satiny/dressy materials in my stash, which have been collected over the years from various sources. Back in November I decided that I was gonna use some of it to make formal dresses for the various Mardi Gras related festivities that people attend around here. Now it's mid-January, the holiday falls on February 5th, and the balls/events probably begin within the next week or so, and I'm just now getting these out. Typical me. But still, I think there's enough time between now and then for them to be on the market.

As you may know, Mardi Gras colors are purple, gold, and green. I think these are pretty appropriate.

Gold with rose detailing, boning, and Posh lining. Oh, and an invisible zipper. I love those. This one is best for a size medium-large.

You can't really see the sleeve detail on this one, but there's a thin strip of black material connecting the sleeve to the ruffle on the end. The v-neck is wide and rests on the outer parts of the shoulders. There's a seam down the front, an invisible zipper in back, and black lining on the inside. It would best fit someone who's about a medium, but someone who's a small could wear it as well.

A green one would have completed the collection, but somehow green isn't a color that made it into the collection of fabrics.

These will be for sale at a local boutique tomorrow, and two lucky people will have the chance to own an original, rare, 'she hardly ever does this' flytie formal. :-D I've been advised to do more formals as "that's where the money's at". But I'm not sure. I've got experience doing it on a few different occasions...see turquoise dresses here to get an idea. There were 12 total. Still, I don't know if it's for me, especially on a regular basis.

Anyway, I don't celebrate Mardi Gras, but I might walk downtown to people watch on that day (Just 3 blocks away). It's quite interesting to see all the hoopla that goes on. That's one thing about Louisiana, especially in the south. People don't take celebrating lightly.

"Here I Come Again!!!!"

(Now this has to be one of the best dance scenes in the land. I really love it :-D)

So it's been what...nearly three weeks??

I've had stuff to say, but not really the certainty that it would make any difference...just as what's coming may not, ha!

Sometime around August 2006 I had a vision for a collection of 100% cotton dashiki style garments as well as some lil mini dresses with flared sleeves. I had a whole page of sketches and everything. Now that's big for me, since I'm not really a garment sketcher. My ideas got straight from mind to fabric.

Well, here it is 2008, and it's finally happening. That's about right, though....a year and five months to get started on on something that's been on my mind. That flytie website...which has been planned and drawn out in a notebook for nearly 2 yrs now....will happen. I'm just not sure when. Hey, that's just the way things flow 'round here.

Anyways.

I finished 2 of the cotton dresses lately.

Both of these are available in my etsy shop.

The second one came out extra small. (Maybe you can tell how squished I am in it...could barely breathe once I managed to get it zipped) That wasn't my intention, but things just work out like that sometimes. The beautiful thing about the world is that it consists of folk of all shapes and sizes, so everything has its place. :-D

I've made one of the dashiki tunics. It's not all cotton, but sill...

I'm in love with wide sleeves.

Solid colors are also big with me right now. My sistafriend, who I've been a long distance personal stylist for over the last 4 yrs., gets a lot of solid colored dresses made. I recently finished some (and am working on more) for her, so now it's carrying over into other things.

It's great, cause you can add various accessories to jazz it up if you want.

I suppose that's it for now. Surprisingly, I've been in a serious sewing mood lately, so I'm just riding the waves. They come and go.

Be back soon with more... :-)
