Cuteness From Afar..

...Minnesota to be specific.

(I was supposed to blog about these beauties a long time ago.)

One of my cyber sistas so generously sent me these two lively colored, eye catching neck warmers...

And to show them "in context"...

I really love the hardware on each. The brooch on the pink one is removable, so I can change it up if I wish.

The woman's got skills with the crochet hook. I suggest that you check out her etsy shop for more crochet goodness.

You can see her work here: Breathoflight

As mentioned before, I have a serious thing for neck adornment other than traditional necklaces, so you know I was too thrilled to receive these two lovelies in the mail.

I gave crocheting a go about 3 yrs. ago. While I did manage to successfully produce a pot holder and a drawstring purse, I quickly concluded that it wasn't for me. So now I just let it be and enjoy the crochet goodies of other folk. :-D

Thanks a bunch feepee!

Why Yes...Yes I Can.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeew! I've been so very extremely busy lately. My friend and I created a grassroots organization a couple months ago, and we just finished up 4 days of events. Never again will I take for granted all that goes into planning and organizing events. Talk about worn out. All that's over now, and everything was great. Now I can get back to my sewing.

I'm not sure of the reason, but over the past couple weeks, I've been getting a lot of requests for custom orders. It's always fun to help bring the stylistic visions of others to life. Many times people will see a style in my shop that they like but want different colors or materials. Other times they'll have an idea for a garment but don't necessarily have the skills required to create it. That's where I come in. :-)

Some of my most recent custom creations...

I'm working on a custom order right now and have another request that I'll be handling soon. I'm always flattered when I get requests for custom work. Plus people are usually very enthusiastic when the send me an inquiry. That always makes me smile. :-D

I Think I've Had My Fix

I recently uploaded 3 new tunics to my sewfly shop.

They're fun to make, and I do like 'em. However, I think I've had enough for now. It's like food. For the past few weeks I've been wanting nothing but oranges. They've been a huge part of my daily food intake. Now, though, I just about can't stand to look at one.

This happens quite frequently, so no worries. Just gotta keep things diversified or else I get bored.

Hmm...I do know that I wanna make more of these dresses:

Maybe just a few more. In different colors and things. :-)

Love, Joy, Peace, Shine, Be.

If you've been to my fotki or flickr then you've probably seen photos of the new "Art Tops". If you haven't been to either of those, then hey, check it out. In the meantime, though, here's a taste:

JOY

POWER

LOVE

BE

PEACE

LIVE NOW
I'd been receiving requests from boutiques throughout the nation who were interested in carrying some of my more artistic pieces, so that was the basis for this new collection. Well, unfortunately it was just brought to my attention that one of the shops will go out of business next month. I contacted another last week and still haven't heard back. There's still one more I need to contact. For now, though, I'll just sell these locally. My intentions are to not put any on etsy just yet, but as more are completed, some will most likely be added. If anyone is interested in any, just hit me up via sewfly82@yahoo.com and we can make it happen. Directly from me, you can get them for $28 each. Once they're on etsy, they'll be a bit more.

I always enjoy making these in the freestyle, non-patterned way that I do. Plus they remind me of the coming spring...so colorful, so inspirational, so fun. :-)

All Wrapped Up

Yesterday I ended up walking downtown to the Mardi Gras festivities with my guy. It was pretty fun. High energy. Lots of children running around. Cloudy skies, but no rain (as had been predicted). Extremely high winds. 78 degrees. It felt great. A lot of people (including myself) were dressed like it was summertime. Funny considering that the high for today is 50 something.

I'm not one to be screaming and jumping for the people in the parades to throw me beads and things, but I ended up with tons.

(Eerie, yet cool lookin' picture...)

That's about 1/3 of the total amount that I have. I just stood in my spot, and when they landed at my feet, I picked them up. My manfriend got into the action and ended up clowning arounfd with some others who were competing for beads. He gave all the ones he had to me. Then there was another guy giving me some he caught (he kept the 'good ones' for himself.) After a while I'd had enough, cause my blood circulation was being jeopardized. The were all wrapped around my arms as you see in the picture rather than on my neck. They'll all be sent to my lil' brother (in north Louisiana) who'll enjoy them thoroughly. Mardi Gras isn't big there at all. They have one parade in a city 30 miles from where we're from and that's it. My mom said the neighbors gave him some and he was all excited. (They're originally from New Orleans and must be in shock from the lack of Mardi Gras celebration where they're currently residing.)

So, once that episode ended, we walked around a bit, and then I headed home. It was fun for what it was worth.

In sewing news I recently uploaded 2 new tops to my sewfly shop.

The cool thing about these is that they used to be long dashikis that I'd made for a friend who later decided on different colors.

I had pictures but guess they were deleted. But just know that they were nearly ankle length at one point. And the second one originally had no dragonfly on it.

Today maybe I'll work on some of these to sell locally, cause I like 'em. :-)

"It's Love!"

(In the words of Jill Scott.)

What a great feeling to learn that someone (non-negatively) mentioned one of my garments on their blog. I just happened to come across this neat, 'fashion forward' blog today:

One of my garments is part of a post on flowy dresses. Check it out here! :-D

Movin' On...

So, come the end of February, I'll be moving to a new space. Not only does this mean that I actually need to be trying to find a new place to live, it also means I'll be leaving my green walls/background for my photos behind. :-( (in which I invested a lot of energy to paint less than 1 yr. ago)

I love them dearly.

Maybe I'll come across a place where the owner will allow me to paint. If not, I'll have to think of something else...

Moving is not something I enjoy doing at all. The place I lived before this one was my haven for over 4 yrs. Eventually something similar to gentrification occurred (at least that's how I classify it), though, so it didn't last. I've only been here for 1 yr., but due to certain circumstances, I'll be giving it up come March.

Anyway.

I don't like to carry a lot of items with me when I move, so many items in my 'flytie' etsy shop have been reduced effective today for the duration of the month in the hopes that people like you will be more motivated to buy them. :-) Maybe they'll stay at their reduced prices once the month concludes. Maybe not. But I encourage everyone to go check it out!

Just to give you an idea of what's on sale, there are funky pieces like this:

'cute' ones like this:

and sexy ones such as this:

(which I'm sure would be more sexy on someone who it actually fit).

check the back:

In addition, nearly everything in my 'sewfly' shop is on clearance indefinitely.

Given the whole moving situation, my production level has slowed a bit. Not cause I'm actually packing or anything (that'll most likely start happening the last week of the month), but because I'm constantly thinking about packing and where I'll end up living. There are a few things in the works, though. Be back soon!
